December 31: A terrible schism, heartache, clearer clarity, love, beer, dancing, sleep.
December 30: Housesitting, talking, tears, ridiculous laughter, silliness, clarity, sleep.
December 29: The Sticking Place reached its funding goal of $20,000 on Kickstarter.

To be frank, things are crazy.

This weekend, Leah, our Sticking Place star, earned a spot on the Canadian Olympic Team. I watched her wrestle from a walkway above, where I’d set up my camera to film a master-shot of the epic fight unfold between Leah and Canada’s ten-time national champion, Ohenewa. I tried to stay composed, but as my tapes will prove, I couldn’t stop from whispering under my breath and then screaming my head off as Leah fought with body, mind and soul. I talked with a man named Randy on my flight to Winnipeg before the big match. He said “My advice is love what you do, and do what you love,” and I said, “So far so good” and meant it.

Now I’m just trying to stay human in the middle of the kind of explosive personal growth that leaves organized thoughts in shatters… Making this film has stretched me wide and far. At 25 years old, I’m in the middle of a project that inspires and challenges me in a way I’ve never experienced. I’m feeling mighty tired right now, and our push to raise $20,000 on Kickstarter has another 11 days of life yet. But the world is full of good people who are willing to lend a hand, and I believe we can make it.

This evening we also saw that our Kickstarter Project passed the 34% funded mark!

Tomorrow afternoon Brittany and I will be heading two hours North to begin our journey at the Whistler Film Fest where The Sticking Place has been accepted into the Digital Media Lab (workshop program). We are super psyched! When we’re not busy meeting other imaginative film folks, we’ll be live tweeting via @thestickingdoc and @MooseStashFilms! Join us for the adventure??

In other exciting news: the film has been selected to participate in the Whistler Film Festival’s Digital Media Lab (which means all access passes for Josephine and I WHOOO HOOO!!!) and we will be filming in Winnipeg in December, when Leah faces her Canadian competitors at the Olympic Qualifiers to battle for the coveted spot on the 2012 Canadian Olympic Team.

So, it’s going to be a very busy month for us indeed, and we would treasure any support you could offer us!

This weekend, I hit up Media Democracy Days here in Vancouver, coordinated by my dear friend Gala Milne. Media makers and in-takers of all kinds gathered to dissect the ins and outs of media, and share visions for making our mediascape more kickass. For most of the event, we the crowd of eager attendees, sat back and listened as panelists, perched behind a table, whooped up a storm of ideas. However on Day 2, I wound up in a D.I.Y Radio workshop. Next thing I knew I was being interviewed about my experience at Media Democracy Days. This week has had it all: Filming Leah wrestle live at the Hargobind International Wrestling Tournament; Interviewing the amazing Susan Robinson over at Irly Distributors; and getting psyched for Media Democracy Days to kick off tonight in downtown Vancouver.

Mostly, however, I wanted to share something super rad with you guys.

Things have been so crazy that I have left this poor site all alone for a couple of months. Let’s rewind to August and get up to speed!

AN EXCITING RAPID FIRE UPDATE FROM THE STICKING PLACE INTERACTIVE FILM TEAM

• August: Went to Calgary, filmed Leah wrestling, eating, shopping, working out, hanging out… You name it we filmed it. She was wild! She was fierce! She was lovely!
• Went to Northern BC again (well, Brittany did). Filmed Leah coaching kids and making hula hoops.
• September: Had an intense super-sesh here in Vancouver, doing Kickstarter planning, writing website content, filming, editing, meeting with Sticking Place team members, and most importantly, throwing the wild and crazy Blast Off! Sticking Place Blog Launch Party.
• Brittany moved (temporarily) to Cali to be with her partner, Keegan, a talented artist who scored a big time gig as Art Director for Transworld Skate mag. Bad ass.
• October: Got all our content ready and plugged into our Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign. We wait, and wait, and wait… for Keegan’s new american credit card to arrive in the mail so we can finally meet the Kickstarter criteria and launch this thing! tick tock we are impatient!
• Started to get amazing content sent in from team members: style sketches from Su-An, our animator in Australia, and musical explorations from Ian, our original score composer. We get STOKED!
• Apply for Whistler Film Fest Digital Media Lab & Tribeca All Access (fingers crossed!)
• Leah hears great last minute news! She’s going to the Pan Am Games! Then she hears dreaded news, she missed Pan Am weigh-in by a mere 100 grams – the weight of 40 nickels. It’s sad.

And that just about brings us up to speed… Next week we’ll be filming in Burnaby and Surrey where Leah will wrestle in the Hargobind International Wrestling Tournament. I’m so excited about this, you don’t even know.
